Hi! About a year ago, I was cantering with my horse. She sometimes trips but always moves on instantly. Except that time, so she fell to the ground and also kind of sideways against the boarding. When she got up again, I miraculously stayed on but immediately saw that my right knee was absolutely swollen. Bless my horse, she stayed to calm and I just rode her to the exit of the arena, got off and limped to the stables where my sister was mucking out. Anyway, the first doctor I’ve seen didn’t think it was that bad, so I got sent home to just rest. But the swelling and pain didn’t go away for another few days, so I went to see another doctor and she instantly told me to get an x-ray. Luckily, nothing weird could be found on it. My recovery went smoothly with the help of my physiotherapist, until one day my knee just randomly locked. I’ve had that once before but eventually it went away. This time it didn’t and my knee still randomly locks from time to time. I’ve seen doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths, an orthopaedic specialist, had an MRI and still, we have no clue what it is. While I still have my bad days, I’ve come to realise that we sometimes take our bodies for granted. While my injury is pretty mild compared to others, it still hinders my every day life and not being able to walk (or dance, which I love to do too) without worries like before is very upsetting. But I’m grateful that I can still walk, ride my horses and dance without it bothering me from time to time. Just know that you are allowed to upset, because having an injury is awful. But it will get better and that is something to be very grateful about. Wishing you a speedy recovery Harlow❤
