5/30/2025Seems like a really bad design to allow the throttle to go full without checks in place that everything is ready. Seems like a simple software fix would be warranted.

5/27/2025New muscle memories~! All idles set BEFORE ignition off. ;) (That and watching lubricant lifespan.)

5/27/2025Hi Matt I’m probably missing some reason why you didn’t do it but I thought the best way to use those induction heaters is to heat the nut or bolt to the part glows a little like you would when heating with a flame? Or is there some reason you couldn’t do that?

5/25/2025Tip on breaking heat cycled bolts, when you pre-heat the bolt rub a plain white candle on the bolt. The heat will pull the wax into the threads. One of the best penetrants when preheating.

5/25/2025Cip-1 sells copper plated metric (M8) nuts for use on VW exhaust to head use. I think they're Japanese metric size using a 12mm wrench size too.
Kinda late but hope this helps.

5/21/2025rain day has me watching your videos pertaining to my work! great content
@slateslavens
5/21/2025so what you're seeing with the boost vs barometric pressure is:
Barometric pressure is the actual pressure of the atmosphere as it is when you look at the gague.
There are two ways to show Boost Pressure:

The first is to show total pressure, including atmospheric/barometric.
The second is to show the amount of boot above atmospheric, so 'total boost' - 'barometric pressure'. This is the most common for street cars.

You excavator uses the first - total pressure - which is common in military, industrial, and turbosupercharged aircraft engines.
So when shut down, the two pressure readings should match. Once started, boost pressure should start to climb above atmospheric as the turbo spools up. In your situation, where the two read the same with the engine running, you know there's something up with the turbo system. Whether that's a loose charge pipe/intake duct, failed pressure sensor, or a failed turbo.

5/20/202537:48 Min.: Always fill up the Turbo with fresh oil, before mounting the oil feed line to it! That provides the immediate lubrication of the sliding bearing at the first start.
