7/27/2025This is called a Chilling Effect, and it has dangerous implications for your freedom—whether you realize it or not.

Right now, we're seeing game developers and platforms like Valve being pressured by credit card companies and payment processors to pull adult games from their storefronts. Not because they're illegal. Not because they violate any law. But because some financial gatekeepers disapprove.
This alone should set off alarm bells.

First, they prove they can and will exert influence. They establish the precedent. The message is clear: "If we don’t like your content, we’ll make it impossible to fund." Then the thin red line begins to move, and it never stops.

Today it's sexual content. Tomorrow? It could be:

Violent content. Guns, blood, or anything that implies harm—even if it’s fantasy.

Military themes. Any game that portrays war, soldiers, or governments critically—especially if the country in question might take offense.

Historical content. Games that dare to depict dark moments in history accurately may be flagged as “too controversial” or “triggering.”

Political satire. A comedy game that makes fun of a political figure or party? Could be considered “misinformation” or “unsafe.”

Insufficient DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion). Games that don’t have the “right” ratio of characters from every demographic might be labeled problematic or “not inclusive enough”—even if the story doesn’t call for it.

Religious themes. A game with demons might offend some; a game with prayer might offend others. Who decides what’s acceptable? The banks?

Negative portrayal of corporations. God forbid a cyberpunk game critiques mega-corporations—those very same ones might be funding the payment processors behind the scenes.

Mods and user-generated content. It won’t matter that the developer didn’t create it. If someone might add something controversial, they’ll shut down the whole game.

Unflattering depictions of governments or institutions. Especially if those governments are powerful international trading partners.

"Excessive freedom." Open sandboxes with too much player agency might be seen as “risky environments” because players could create something offensive.

The point is, the criteria will keep shifting, always in favor of caution, always more restrictive—because the companies calling the shots don’t care about art, culture, or creativity. They care about minimizing risk and controlling perception.

This is the quiet erosion of expression. Not by governments, but by unelected corporate middlemen—financial entities that were never supposed to decide what kind of art the world is allowed to see.

Ask yourself: when every publisher, artist, or developer is forced to ask, "Will this upset the credit card companies?"—what kind of culture are we left with?

Not a free one.

7/27/2025Your opinion on this is way too close to being a "legalize pedophilia" dog whistle.
@mencibenci
7/27/2025I will never understand how anyone can support the censorship of non-illegal and non-directly-calling-for-violence content just because they simply don’t like it. can we skip past this safe space bubble wrapped generation of people who think everything they don’t like should be banned?
@GuitarJester89
7/27/2025If payment processors want to dictate how people spend money. Than they have to be held liable for when they are used for illegal activity.
@engalstiger
7/27/2025I wonder what would happen if we spam visa, mastercard, and pay pal with adult items on ebay, amazon, and so on.

@Payaqt
7/27/2025The flood gates were open a long time ago after they started to ban lolis. It is great since a company can just claim that a character is underaged and get stuff banned. Hell, people from these orgs call the Grok companion "Ani" underaged. You will never go back to the "normal" times since people will always dangle this content in front of you and call you words while profiting from actual CSAM.

@hetsie9956
7/27/2025Find what these Karens like, then we make a petition and send it to all payment processor to force them to block that aswell.
