Dozens have been found, and they’re remarkably consistent. But nobody knows what they were for, and there’s no references to them in any art or literature. There’s no shortage of theories, and we’ll examine them today. @mickjen
6/5/2025It is clearly a knitting gauge.
@meli66ajg
6/5/2025Ok it's an olive pit spitting game. You get more points for spitting the pit into the smaller holes. This idea copyright @ me!

6/5/2025Gloves for soldiers in winter. Moon calendar.
@grayrainbow100
6/5/2025Viking knitting makes the most demonstrable sense, knitting (and similar fiber crafts) was INCREDIBLY useful for soldiers to know (sailors and lighthouse keepers too!) Like the only tick against it being a loom is the lack of wear from potential metal scraping. Which, A. is made redundant by the protective wax buildup if ever they were prioritized for jewelry/chain, and, B. can be explained by them being used primarily for textiles, which would be far more useful for both women and soldiers.
@Hans-sb1ko
6/5/2025Could it be a coin measuring device ?
@Part.No.1xbil.Prod.Tp.MXMVIII
6/5/2025If it was a loom, it too could be a religious symbol in ancient gaulic culture. Knotwork is ingrained in the mythology of northern European pagan traditions, which only makes more sense with the ichosehedron, as many religious symbols come from tools and are then abstracted. For example: The Mjonir, the pagan solar cross (which is a calendar) and the slavic axe which is a symbol of Perun. There too is no reason to believe all these looms would have been made from expensive metals, and thus, only the untouched and sacred among them are surviving examples which haven't degraded past recognition or otherwise been recycled.
@Frakaphoto
6/5/2025bullshit. This is a very basic and easy way to make gloves ! it was demonstrated since 20 years !
@mike2lane
6/5/2025My 96 year old grandmother just said her mother’s third container was for granulated sugar and was used for breakfast (oats & coffee).

6/5/202513:37 It almost certainly does tick the "wealthy/influential women" criteria. Why wouldn't the wives of all those politicians and military leaders want to be able to send coded messages? They had some access to valuable information.
@Lotushoney-w7z
6/5/2025Right up there with the pyramids. Found in lots of places …nobody knows why.

@Scot-sx3yi
6/5/2025My brother was buried with a little metal piano. He played the piano. And a tangerine. There was a generous child at the funeral.

6/5/2025I remember ice houses and the milk man when I was a kid in the 50’s 😊
@anonuzer3394
6/5/2025Maybe it was to judge a coin's value according to size, or a template to measure various sized shot before loading it in a barrel
@guardiandivll
6/5/2025It's very reminiscent of cogs for a dome shaped tent I had 10' ft. X 14'ft. diameter. Look it up, I think it a viable explanation.
@boydwyatt
6/5/2025Looks a bit like the french knitting process. Different sides for larger sections as it progresses. .?..??? Maybe?
