This is what buried treasure looks like in 2025. 💰 Jay Leno uncovers one of the most extraordinary automotive discoveries in recent history — a 1956 Mercedes-Benz Alloy Gullwing, one of just 29 ever made, and the only unrestored survivor. Hidden away in a Los Angeles storage garage for nearly 60 years, this ultra-rare, all-aluminum Gullwing was once forgotten — until now. Jay walks us through the incredible backstory, the preservation details, and why this hand-built piece of Mercedes racing history sold for nearly $10 million. This isn’t just a car — it’s a time capsule. Don’t miss this once-in-a-lifetime look inside one of the most important barn finds in automotive history. @Randy-q5h
5/14/2025Wait, you didn't go to the auction because you were working? For who? Working on what? Seriously? (You should have taken a "sick day"). Good for you Jay, keep up the work ethic.
@Honda12Champ
5/14/2025I hope his garage eventually turns into a automotive museum and donate the proceeds to charity. Take my money! Love you Jay! I grew up watching you on TV and love your passion for cars.
@Randy-q5h
5/14/2025I can see at LEAST 10 million hours of work when I look at that car.
@den_525
5/14/2025When did this world get to a point where junk is good? 10m? wtf.

5/14/2025About 1973 or so, my father brought me with him to the local foreign car repair shop. He'd always been a huge fan of Mercedes, though he never owned one. He'd heard that the shop had TWO 300SL's on property and they were both for sale. I remember one was red and one was silver. I recall how odd and awkward the wide sill was when getting in, so yes, I sat in them. He could have had either of them for $5,000 but couldn't bring himself to pull the trigger. I remember him telling me he just couldn't imagine spending such a huge sum of money for a car that immediately needed work.
I mean, just a few years before, he bought a brand new 1968 VW Bug for $1950 off the lot, so I guess I get it.

5/14/2025It's absolutely insane that people back in the day didn't think these low production cars would be crazy valuable.
@whitewalker57
5/14/2025It will be a sad day when this man passes on. His knowledge about all the different car makers is astounding. His knowledge is pretty unmatched. Good man with a lot of historical knowledge, and pretty damn funny too.
@jethzeeltorres9727
5/14/2025That car couldn’t have ended up in better hands than Jay.
@briansmith-l1q
5/14/2025calm down. It's a car
@cokebottles6919
5/14/2025I'm not much of a car guy, but Jay's love, passion, and knowledge for them is infectious.
@stiki108
5/14/2025This car deserves to visit the professional hands of HK-Engineering and undergo a complete restoration.
@Mark-um7ey
5/14/2025Awesome find! I get keeping it as found original but wash it! Lol never understood that barn find dirt thing but I don't collect $10m raccoon poop either so...
@Exploramix
5/14/2025This is love
@stevenanderson351
5/14/2025Myself, I would leave it alone in its original state. One of a kind
@Onlineghost2ohm-qz4sg
5/14/2025IT’S ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE (is the answer) Just know, as it sits. There IS THE CORRECT OWNER WHO WILL BUY AS IS, and there’s ALSO A BUYER WHO WILL RESTORE IT BACK TO AS OEM AS POSSIBLE FOR THAT MB CERTIFICATE. Reality is, is day -by/day: this type of buyer gets less, year-by-year. Barn FINDS ARE AT ITS ZENITH IN VALUE AND TOTAL AMOUNT OF EYES 👀 STILL INTERESTED. All vehicles 2-4/18 wheels ALL NEED TO BE DRIVEN. The collectors of yesterday are no more…. In a decade (the market will shrink drastically). People who own cars as investments will struggle to make their own money back. Wallets tightening, once wallets are seen as the beginning of the end. Collections try to unloaded ASAP, due to a false rush of a rare HyperCar collection is dumped, and there was a frenzy between 3 parties for 1 F1 MCCLAREN, Jdm R34 OEM LEXUS LFA, Supra 6-spd ‘97 Anniversary OEM stock all Original. 2007 was a record year a custom Dodge wide body in metal (with match hot wheels) total custom was sold for 880,000$usd a high of highs to the CRASH OF 2008 unbelievable from just 12 months ago. Don’t remember but because of wallet tightening; for the “buyer” it was time to buy. But everything ebbs and flows for a reason. The cautious follow the trend to stay safe (risk free)** that’s where it all comes down to. Timing & RISK… when do gamble so that payoffs are most great? When you BUCK THE TREND!!!! Save all manuals, the ONLY TRANS THAT MATTERS IN 2025!!! IYKYK ;)
@DerDermin8tor
5/14/2025Great presentation, and I also like the beaten up cars more likeable than the perfect shiny restaurations.
@cashtalks6253
5/14/2025I looking a buying a 1935 Morris 8 from my dad but there's nothing to go by on this car because there's nothing like it here in the USA.
This is not a Morris minor. Morris was a stand alone manufacture at the time.plus the car is 100% original and I want to keep it that way.
@Scoztrix
5/14/2025this scratches an itch for me that i cannot begin to express
@Ed_in_Md
5/14/2025Wow! That’s only about 45000 miles. I wish we could see it when the new owner finishes doing whatever he’s going to do to it.
